Wendi Schneider studio tour

Wendi Schneider creates hand-gilded photographs that explore light, surface, and ephemeral beauty, informed by a background in painting and art history and by her collection of turn-of-the-twentieth-century art and objects.

Working on translucent vellum and kozo, she applies precious metals, including 24k and white gold leaf, creating luminous images that shift as light moves across their surfaces. Each work exists as a unique variant, with distinctions in substrate, toning, and metal emphasizing process as meaning. Her series States of Grace, The Weight of Light, and Held Light explore quiet presence and resilience, with the photographic surface becoming a light-activated object.

Schneider studied painting and art history at Stephens College and Newcomb College at Tulane University before turning to photography in the early 1980s. She produced fine art commissions and photography for books, magazines, and advertising in New York before moving to Denver in 1994. Her photographs are held in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston; the Center for Creative Photography; the Royal Photographic Society; the New Orleans Museum of Art; the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art; the Asheville Art Museum; and Auburn University Libraries. She is represented by galleries in New Orleans, Houston, Tucson, Atlanta, New York, Cleveland, Jerusalem, and San Miguel de Allende.

Two sessions, one from 10 to 11am and the other from 1 to 2pm.  Limited to 10 people per session. Wendi’s studio is located in Park Hill at 1635 Hudson Street, Denver.  Park on the street and then knock on the front door.
