MAA members are invited to join renowned painter Michael Ome Untiedt in his studio, where he will give a demonstration of his work by painting live and sharing his thoughts and stories.
From the artist: “My name is Michael Ome Untiedt. I was born in Lamar, Colorado in 1952. I grew up east of Aurora and on a farm near the now partial ghost town of Bristol, Prowers County, Colorado. I graduated from Granada Union High School in 1970 and graduated from Denver University in 1975, and Metro State College, now Metropolitan University in 1981. I worked at many things while trying to establish myself as an artist. I was employed by the National Park Service as a demonstrating craftsman in woodworking and blacksmithing, and later taught woodworking and furniture design at Metro State College. I spent nine years as a woodshop teacher in both high school and middle school for Aurora Public Schools. My art mentor was the watercolorist Buffalo Kapinski. I became a full-time painting artist in 1999. I participated in my first art show in 1972, and attended many outdoor art festivals over the years, selling watercolors, paintings, wood and metal working crafts. I have been married to wife Donna for 44 years and have a son, Zachariah, and daughter Hannah.
My artist influences are many. I was at an early age heavily influenced by the artists Ned Jacob, Buffalo Kaplinski, George Carlson, Len Chmiel, Manuel Martinez and Bill Sharer, all who once worked in the Denver area. Russ Chatham and Oleg Stavaroski were friends and influences. I was raised in a rural western environment, so have always had a deep interest in western history and cowboys. James Whistler, Frederick Remington, and Frank Tenney Johnson directed my interest in painting night scenes. For some unexplainable reason I am attracted to Ireland and all things Irish. Mix all of this together and you find the soup I live in…no, the stew I dine heartily from.
I have participated in an endless litany of art shows, galleries, and exhibitions over the years, you can check out my web site for this kind of information. www.michaelomeuntiedt.com Let it be said that I am no rookie for this kind of thing, and am not convinced of the positive effect this history has had on the development of my painting skills.
I am honestly looking forward to your visiting my studio and watching me paint. I am for the most part friendly, congenial and have a head full of interesting, sometimes pointless, facts and stories. Know you will be welcome and I hope you come with questions, maybe some answers, and an anticipation of humor and hope. Slainte’
